At wsms, your child will experience the benefits of an authentic Montessori education:
AMI-Trained Montessori Guides
Our guides hold Montessori credentials from Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) training centers and have completed rigorous preparation in child development, observation, and Montessori pedagogy. Through careful observation and ongoing professional development, they support each child’s unfolding development with respect and expertise.
A carefully prepared environment
The Montessori classroom is a carefully prepared environment designed to meet the developmental needs of the child. Beautiful, orderly, and scaled to the child, every aspect of the environment—from the furnishings to the materials—supports independence, concentration, coordination, and confidence.
Experience-based learning
Children learn through purposeful activity. Montessori materials invite exploration, repetition, and discovery, allowing children to construct understanding through direct experience. Through meaningful work, children develop concentration, self-discipline, and a deep foundation for future learning.
Individualized pacing
Montessori education recognizes that each child develops according to their own unique timetable. Rather than teaching all children the same lesson at the same time, guides present lessons individually or in small groups, allowing each child to progress at a pace that reflects their readiness, interests, and needs.
A Partnership with families
We believe that children thrive when home and school work together in support of their development. Throughout the year, we offer opportunities for parent education and community engagement, helping families deepen their understanding of Montessori philosophy and practice.
Many traditional educational settings are organized differently than Montessori programs:
Inconsistent adult preparation
Teachers in traditional programs may have a variety of educational backgrounds and training experiences. Montessori guides complete specialized training focused on child development, observation, and the use of Montessori materials.
Teacher-directed Instruction
In many traditional classrooms, adults determine what children will do, when they will do it, and how long they will spend on each activity. Opportunities for children to make choices about their work and follow their interests may be more limited.
Activity-focused programming
Traditional programs often rely on whole-group lessons and activities. As a result, children may spend more time participating in activities chosen by the teacher or "busy work" than engaging in self-selected work.
one-size-fits-all lessons
In many traditional classrooms, children are introduced to the same concepts at roughly the same time. While teachers work to meet individual needs, the structure of the classroom may allow less flexibility for children to progress according to their own developmental readiness.
Limited parent Collaboration
In many traditional programs, communication with families is primarily informational, focusing on schedules, classroom updates, and daily events. Opportunities for ongoing parent education, classroom observation, and deeper collaboration between home and school may be less common.

Parent Reviews
"WSMS is such a special gem. Our oldest started here after being home for three years, so we weren't sure what to expect for her transition to school. It couldn't have gone better. She is so happy at WSMS, which makes us so happy. The staff are all warm, kind, and welcoming, which has created a safe environment that's allowed our daughter to really grow and flourish. We feel lucky to be a part of this community!"
